Lady Bearcats even record at 4-4 in loss to Columbus State

SAVANNAH, Ga.----The Lander women's basketball team evened its record at 4-4 Saturday afternoon when the Lady Bearcats fell to Columbus State, 74-56, in the Chatham Orthopedics Holiday Classic hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University in Alumni Arena.

Columbus State improves to 6-3 overall. Both teams are members of the Peach Belt Conference, but the game counted as a non-conference contest.

Tiara Good led the Lady Bearcat attack with a game-high 17 points and five rebounds. Stephanie Ponds added 10 points and nine rebounds, while April McClendon chipped in nine points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Columbus State was led by Monica Sicka and Cherwonna Walker, who both posted double-doubles in points and rebounds. Sicka scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Walker had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley Stafford added eight points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

CSU, which led 36-28 at halftime, outscored Lander, 38-28, in the second half. The Lady Cougars connected on 26-of 67 field goals for 38.8 percent, including 7-of-24 three-point attempts for 29.2 percent. CSU made 15-of-31 free throws for 48.4 percent.

Lander made 19-of-68 field goals (27.9 percent), 6-of-30 three pointers (20 percent) and 12-of-15 free throws (80 percent). CSU outrebounded Lander, 58-46.
