Good scores 34 in Lady Bearcats loss to Armstrong Atlantic

SAVANNAH, Ga.----Tiara Good scored a game- and season-high 34 points Friday night, but the Lander women's basketball team could not hold back Armstrong Atlantic State University's second-half rally in a 73-71 loss to the Lady Pirates in the Chatham Orthopedics Holiday Classic.

Armstrong Atlantic, the tournament host, improves to 5-3 overall, while Lander drops to 4-3. Even though both teams are in the Peach Belt Conference, this game was played as a non-conference contest.

Good connected on 9-of-27 field goals, including 6-of-14 three-point shots, and made 10-of-11 free throws in 39 minutes played. Stephanie Ponds added 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Bryony Crouch led the Lady Bearcats in assists with eight, while Good had a team-high four steals.

Armstrong Atlantic was led by Kaneetha Gordon (16 points, 16 rebounds) and Jasmine Herron (10 points, five assists).

Lander, which led 39-24 at halftime, connected on 23-of-71 field goals for 32.4 percent, including 8-of-31 three-point shots for 25.8 percent. The Lady Bearcats made 17-of-21 free throws for 81 percent.

Armstrong Atlantic was 31-of-80 from the field (38.8 percent), 5-of-24 from the three-point line (20.8 percent) and 6-of-13 from the free throw line (46.2 percent).

Lander will play Columbus State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
