GREENWOOD – UNC Pembroke got goals from four different players Saturday afternoon and blanked Lander 4-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match.
UNC Pembroke improved to 6-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Peach Belt. The Lady Bearcats fell to 3-11, 0-7. Lander played with only 11 players and was not able to substitute during the game.
Sarah Day opened the scoring 11:42 into the match off an assist from Allie Black. Nisa Akins blasted a shot into the top of the net at the 30:59 mark off an assist from Melanie Cobb to make it 2-0. And just 21 seconds later, Cobb scored on a breakaway off an assist from Akins.
Pembroke out-shot the Lady Bearcats 16-1 in the first half. Lander's only shot was blasted by Kacy Culbertson and saved by Whitney Beverly.
Kerri White scored Pembroke's final goal with just 5:09 left in the match. Cobb's shot was deflected to White, who placed the ball into the right side of the net.
Pembroke out-shot Lander 29-5. Goalkeepers Beverly, Hillary Helms and Kristen Parker split the minutes three ways and combined for the shutout. Lady Bearcats goalkeeper Rachael Hine had a strong game, making 12 saves.
