Bobcats triumph over Lander men’s basketball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.----Jeremy Mayweather scored 23 points, and Bryan Harrison tied a school record with 12 assists to lead Georgia College & State University to a 69-48 victory over Lander University Wednesday night in the Centennial Center. GC&SU (10-4, 7-1 PBC) has won two in a row, while Lander (3-10, 0-6 PBC) has lost three straight.

After a sluggish start by both teams, GC&SU used a 9-0 run capped by a pair of free throws from Ronnie Dennis to put the Bobcats up 30-14 with 2:31 remaining in the first half. The Bobcats would go into the locker room with a 35-17 lead after shooting 42.3% (11-26) from the floor while holding the Bearcats to a 23.3% (7-30) clip.

GC&SU used an early 8-0 run in the second half to blow things open, and led by as many as 27 points late in the game. Mayweather hit 10-of-13 shots, including six thundering slam-dunks, to register 23 points. He also tallied nine rebounds and five blocks. Dennis finished with 15 points, while Harrison, who assisted Mayweather on most of his dunks, added five points
and six rebounds to go along with his 12 assists. Emanuel Hodrea led Lander with 15 points, while Scottie Smith scored eight points and grabbed nine boards.

GC&SU shot 49% (24-49) from the floor for the game, including 56.5% (13-23) in the second half. Lander shot 43.3% (13-30) in the second half, but the Bearcats finished only 33.3% (20-60) for the game.
