JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.-----The Lander volleyball team improved to 5-2 Friday night when it defeated Converse College and host Carson-Newman on the first day of the Lady Eagles Volleyball Classic.

Lander defeated Converse, 3-0, then downed the Lady Eagles, 3-2.

Against Converse, Andrea Griffin led the way with 12 kills, while Melissa Trippany had 29 assists.

Against Carson-Newman, Kay Stewart posted 16 kills and Kerri Sorensen added 16 digs.

Lander will face Palm Beach Atlantic and Lincoln Memorial in Saturday's matches.
