GREENWOOD – Lander's Chiddy Mgbor scored less than a minute into the second overtime, lifting the Bearcats to a 3-2 victory over Erskine in a non-conference men's soccer game Wednesday.

The senior forward came in from the left side and scored off a cross from sophomore midfielder Antti Suoniemi at the 9:19 mark of the second overtime, blasting the ball to the keeper's left for the game-winner.

Junior All-American forward Luke Ibbetson scored Lander's first two goals.

The Bearcats improved to 2-1 while Erskine dropped to 0-1. Lander outshot the Flying Fleet 17-3, but wasn't able to put its rival away despite several chances to do so in the first half and early part of the second half.

The Bearcats put together a flurry of three shots in less than a minute before scoring their first goal. With the goalkeeper out of position, an Erskine defender blocked a shot by sophomore midfielder Drew Courtney to keep the match scoreless. But soon after, Lander took a 1-0 lead at the 15:35 mark when Ibbetson took a pass from senior midfielder Carlos Lozano and booted the ball on the ground into the left corner of the net.

The Bearcats upped their lead to 2-0 at the 34:20 mark when Ibbetson, charging down the right side, took a long pass from Courtney and blasted the shot to the goalkeeper's right.

Lander outshot the Fleet 9-0 in the first half.

Ibbetson had two breakaway opportunities early in the second half at the 52- and 53-minute marks but was stopped both times by Fleet goalkeeper Jesse Kraay.

The Fleet, outshot 13-0 at this point, suddenly rallied with two quick goals to tie the game. Freshman forward Tiah Gartorn scored on a breakaway off an assist from freshman midfielder Simon Morris at the 59:36 mark. Then Morris tied the game at 61:32 off an assist from freshman forward Keith Gardiner.

Lander freshman forward Seth Addison shot wide left with 10 minutes left, and the game would go into overtime.

Erskine's junior goalkeeper Kraay had eight saves while Lander senior keeper Garrett Daum recorded no saves.
