GREENWOOD – Lander All-American Luke Ibbetson continued his recent scoring tear with three goals Wednesday and added two assists, leading the Bearcats to a 6-0 non-conference men's soccer victory over North Greenville.
The junior forward also scored three goals in last Saturday's victory over Francis Marion and now has 15 goals on the season.
Lander improved to 8-2-1 while the Crusaders fell to 3-9-1.
The Bearcats had 10 shots on goal before scoring in the match played in intermittent rain showers. Ibbetson opened the scoring off an assist from sophomore forward Nick Cooke at the 37:54 mark with a blast past goalkeeper Jim Burton.
Ibbetson scored in the final minute of the first half, at the 44:27 mark, off an assist from senior midfielder Jack Thompson. Ibbetson took Thompson's long pass across the front of the goal and quickly redirected the ball into the net.
Cooke scored Lander's third goal of the game at 55:50 with a long, ground shot off an assist from junior midfielder Zach Ducey.
Freshman forward Seth Addison scored his first career goal at 71:09 to make it 4-0. Ibbetson and sophomore midfielder Drew Courtney got the assists.
Thompson scored Lander's fifth goal at 76:38 off an Ibbetson assist.
Ibbetson closed the scoring at 86:35 with a penalty kick past goalkeeper Cody Gray. Ibbetson was fouled in the box.
The Bearcats outshot North Greenville 24-3 and had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Burton had seven saves and Gray two stops for the Crusaders. Recording the shutout for Lander was Ryan Peck, who had one save and improved his record to 3-1-1.
