Lander Inducts 75 Student-Athletes Into Chi Alpha Sigma

GREENWOOD - Lander University inducted 75 student-athletes into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society as part of the 2025-26 class, recognizing Bearcats who have demonstrated excellence in both the classroom and in competition.

The 75 inductees posted an average GPA of 3.765 during the 2025-26 academic year. Men's lacrosse led all Lander programs with eight inductees, followed by softball with six.

To qualify for induction into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must have achieved junior academic standing or higher after completing five full-time semesters, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and have earned a varsity letter in their sport.

The 2025-26 class brings Lander's total Chi Alpha Sigma inductees to 449 since the 2023-24 academic year. Because student-athletes are inducted the first time they meet the organization's criteria, returning student-athletes who continue to meet the requirements are not inducted again in subsequent years.

"We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their accomplishments both in the classroom and in competition," said Director of Athletics Brian Reese. "Congratulations to all of this year's Chi Alpha Sigma inductees on this tremendous achievement. The number of student-athletes we have inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in just three years, along with the continued academic success of our department, is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes. It is also a reflection of the commitment of our coaches and support staff to provide our student-athletes with the resources and support they need to succeed. We are excited to celebrate this class and all they have accomplished."

The class adds to another successful year in the classroom for Lander Athletics. The department posted a 3.37 cumulative GPA during the 2025-26 academic year, with all 27 sports recording a full-term GPA above 3.0 for the first time in department history. Additionally, 94 Lander student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA during the academic year.

Lander also led the Peach Belt Conference for the fourth consecutive year with 189 D2ADA Academic Achievement Award recipients. The total increased from 172 honorees in 2024-25.

Nationally, more than 19,000 student-athletes were inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma during the previous academic year, while more than 21,000 student-athletes representing 179 institutions were recognized with the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award.
