Bearcats go Down to the Seminoles in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Coming off two weeks of recovery from Hurricane Helene, preceded by an off week, didn't allow the Bearcats to properly prepare for the Seminoles dropping the match 27-39.

While the first fifteen minutes looked like they might be all Lander, with the visitors jumping out to an 8-0 lead on a try by Ethan Richardson and a penalty kick by Nathan Charbonnel; after an eight-player substitution, FSU was able to take an 8-24 lead going into the half.

Lander regrouped at the half and pulled within 4 points off Charbonnel's foot with four successful penalty kicks. Unfortunately, the rolling subs played heavily to the home team's advantage, and they extended their lead with a penalty kick and two tries.

The visitors mounted a comeback with a late try by Jacob Dawkins, but it was too little, too late. The match ended with a score of 27-39 in favor of FSU.

"I was proud of the men's effort today, especially in the second half and after the unplanned break with the hurricane. FSU had the most physical team we've faced, and our guys stepped up to the challenge for the most part. The score didn't reflect the closeness of the match," said Head Coach Buck Billings. "We only traveled with 22, and the rolling subs played to their advantage. They won, but our guys stayed in the game, and we had a chance to win. This is the type of match we need and the competition we need to test ourselves."
