Lander Picks Up a PBC Point in Scoreless Draw vs. Clayton State

GREENWOOD – Competing for the first time since a 2-0 home win over Anderson on Sept. 25, the Lander women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with visiting Clayton State on Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.

Lander (5-0-3, 0-0-2 PBC) earned a point in the PBC standings with another sterling defensive effort. The Bearcats held the Lakers (7-0-3, 2-0-2 PBC) to seven shots for the game and only five on goal. Leah Hayes Coen saved all five as she and the defensive unit posted their seventh clean sheet of the season.

The Bearcat offense posted 15 shots for the game and seven on net. Angele Hills, who registered three shots on the day, had an early scoring chance just 33 seconds into the game but was stopped by the Clayton State keeper.

Kylie Wilson and Lucy Bova followed Hills' early opportunity in the 5th and 6th minutes respectively, though were also thwarted. Emma Sexton provided the final Lander shot on goal in the first half with five minutes left.

The Bearcats had three shots on goal in the closing half but couldn't find the back of the net in the hearty defensive stalemate.

Lander hits the road for a conference date with USC Beaufort on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
