GREENWOOD - Lander recorded their first shutout of the year as they defeated Mars Hill 3-0 Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer play.
The two teams battled through the first 25 minutes with few scoring opportunities. In the 28th minute, Emma Sexton found Haleigh Bollig, who scored from the top of the box to give Lander the 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 until Gracie Beeson found Romie Llewellyn for the Bearcat's second goal in the 56th minute. Sexton added a third goal in the 69th minute to give Lander some insurance.
The Bearcat defense was suffocating, allowing four total shots and only one on goal. Taylor Frew made one save as she picked up her second win in goal.
