HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Top-seeded Alabama in Huntsville defeated Lander 19-9 Friday in the Gulf South Conference Championship semifinals.
The Chargers jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Melissa Clapsaddle scored in the second quarter to put Lander on the scoreboard. Izzy Olsen scored two and a half minutes later to make it 9-2. Mickey Burnett and Emmy Peterson added a goal as the Bearcats trailed 14-4 at the half.
After falling behind 19-4 in the final quarter, Lander would not go down without a fight. Burnett scored her second goal of the game on an assist by Lauren Fallow with 11:11 left. The Bearcats would get another goal from Burnett and goals from Emmy Peterson, Emma Arifin, and Alyssa Suchan, but it would not be enough as the Chargers advanced to the finals.
