MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Lander volleyball team fell behind 2-1 to Georgia College on Saturday night, but the Bearcats rallied back for a 3-2 victory in a Peach Belt Conference match.
Kyra Ross led the Bearcats (19-8, 8-3 PBC) with 18 kills and added 18 digs. Hannah Hritz return to post 13 kills, while Hannah McManus recorded a team-high 22 digs. Boo Luther chipped in 13 digs and Madilyn Reed finished with 45 assists and nine digs.
Lander dropped the first set and trailed 4-1 in the second set, but fought back with an 8-0 run to take command of the set. Georgia College grabbed the third set to move ahead 2-1, but the Bearcats once again responded. Trailing 14-6, a pair of Ross kill and four consecutive errors by the Bobcats sparked Lander on a 10-0 run to take a lead. Georgia College rallied to move ahead 24-22, but a Hritz kill and a Corey Nichols ace tied the score at 24-24. GC moved in front 26-25, but Lander snagged the final three points to force a fifth set.
The Bearcats stormed out to a 13-4 lead in the fifth, then withstood a Bobcat rally as Hritz ended the night with a kill to give Lander a 15-12 win and the match victory.
Lander wraps up the regular season at Augusta on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m
