Bearcats sweep UNC Pembroke for fourth consecutive win

GREENWOOD – The Lander volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four matches on Friday night as the Bearcats picked up a 3-0 sweep over UNC Pembroke at Finis Horne Arena.

Lander (17-6, 6-1 PBC) picked up its sixth straight win in league play and completed a regular-season sweep of UNCP (13-16, 1-6 PBC).

Kyra Ross and Madilyn Reed each notched double-doubles in the win. Ross led the offense with 19 kills and added 13 digs, while Reed posted her 11th consecutive double-double with 48 assists and 16 digs. Reilly Kuenstler chipped in 13 kills and Maya Walker added 11. Hannah McManus led all Bearcats with 20 digs and Boo Luther finished with 13 digs.

Lander broke a 19-19 tie in the first set with a 4-0 run, highlighted by three klls from Ross, to grab a 25-20 run. In the second set, the Bearcats once again snapped a 14-14 deadlock by scoring six of the next eight points, three coming from Ross kills.

The third set saw Lander holding a 22-21 lead late before a Ross kill and a UNCP error put Lander at match point. Luther notched the game-winning kill to complete the sweep.
