PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lander volleyball team completed an unbeaten weekend with a 3-1 win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats (12-3, 2-1 PBC) won their third consecutive road match, while UNCP (8-12, 0-2 PBC) remains winless in league play.
Madilyn Reed posted her second double-double in as many days with 51 assists and 12 digs, while Kyra Ross notched a career-high 25 kills. Boo Luther and Hannah McManus finished with 20 and 18 digs, respectively.
After dropping the opening set, Lander responded in style with a 25-9 win in set two to even the match. Tied at 22-22 in the third set, a Deona Mims kill gave the Bearcats the lead before back-to-back Brave errors put Lander ahead 2-1 in the match. UNCP appeared to be on the brink of sending the mach to a fifth set, but Lander rallied from a 24-23 deficit with kills from Ross and Maddie Reed before a UNCP error ended the match.
Lander participates in the PBC/SAC Crossover next weekend in Mars Hill, N.C., and Jefferson City, Tenn.
