2019 Lander volleyball schedule unveiled

GREENWOOD – The Lander volleyball program has announced its fall schedule, featuring nine matches against teams that advanced to the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

Lander made its fourth appearance at the NCAA Tournament in the last five years in 2018, earning the program's highest seed ever as the Bearcats entered the field as the Southeast region's No. 5 seed. The Bearcats also finished second in the Peach Belt Conference during the regular season, tying the program's best finish in conference play. 

Lander returns four starters, inclduing all-conference selections Hannah Hritz and Hannah McManus and PBC Setter of the Year Madilyn Reed

The Bearcats will open the regular season on Friday, Sept. 6 against Barton at the Queens Fall Classic and will play Queens that night, followed by Converse and Belmont Abbey on Saturday. Matches against Auburn Montgomery, Lee, Florida Southern, and Fayetteville State headline the USC Aiken Invitational on Sept. 13-14. Lander faces rival Erskine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in its home opener at Finis Horne Arena before welcoming West Georgia to Greenwood on Sept. 20. 

The Belmont Abbey Invite will feature matches against the host Crusaders and Winston-Salem State on Saturday, Sept. 21. Lander then travels to Emmanuel on Sept. 24 before beginning Peach Belt Conference play at home against Flagler at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. 

October begins with conference road trips to Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke on Oct. 4-5 before dates with Mars Hill, Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial, and Carson-Newman for the PBC/SAC Crossover on Oct. 11-12. The Bearcats then face five consecutive PBC opponents at home, playing Augusta (Oct. 18), Georgia College (Oct. 19), USC Aiken (Oct. 24), UNC Pembroke (Nov. 1), and Francis Marion (Nov. 2). 

The Bearcats wrap up the regular season with four road trips. Lander visits USC Aiken (Nov. 5), Flagler (Nov. 9), Georgia College (Nov. 15), and Augusta (Nov. 16).
