Lander bests Benedict on Saturday, 4-1

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's tennis team handled Benedict, 4-1, in its home opener on Saturday afternnon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center. 

"We handled a lot of adversity today," said head coach Samantha Pinchoff, "and I'm proud of our team for fighting to get the win."

Lander used the doubles point as a launching point as the Bearcats struck first in the match. Lander's tandem of Eduarda Ferreira and Isabella Schulz earned a 6-3 win at No. 1, followed by Nelli Lius and Lindsey Wiggins picking up a 6-2 win at No. 2 to give the Bearcats a 1-0 match lead. 

Lius picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and shortly after, Lucia Ric nabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4. 

Ferreira earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 before Benedict managed to get on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot. 

Lander hosts Emmanuel on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
