YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – The Lander women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 contest on the road at Young Harris Saturday evening.
The Bearcats fall to 4-4-2 (2-1-2 PBC) while the Mountain Lions improve to 4-6-0 (3-2-0 PBC) on the season.
Lander could not get anything going offensively as Young Harris would have a 6-0 shot advantage in the first half. In the 27th minute, Aimee Durn would capitalize on a deflection off of Bearcat goalkeeper Sarah Owen and put the ball in the net to give the Mountain Lions the 1-0 advantage. Two minutes later, in the 29th minute, Payton Putzer would take advantage of another deflection as she scores to give the Mountain Lions a quick two-goal lead.
In the second half, Lander would cut the deficit to one thanks to a made penalty kick by Haleigh Bollig in the 60th minute. Later in the 84th minute, Eduarda Chagas would take the cross from Anika Elias and knock the ball in the right side of the net to seal the win for Young Harris.
Young Harris outshot Lander 14-2, as Sarah Owen was forced to make three saves. Young Harris won four corners compared to the Bearcats three.
Lander will back in action next Saturday, Oct. 19, when it hosts No. 20 North Georgia. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Van Taylor Stadium, and the match will be live-streamed on the Bearcat Broadcasting Network.
