MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. – The Lander women's soccer team used a goal in the first half by Emily Jermstad to force overtime and earn a 1-1 draw against Georgia College in their PBC opener Saturday.
Lander (2-3-1) outshot the Bobcats 17-12, but Georgia College (1-4-2) goalkeeper Katie Richardson notched five saves to prevent the Bearcats from picking up their first conference win of the season.
Early on Georgia College's Cassie Balzano would connect on a ball in the 15th minute to put the Bobcats up one. The Bearcats would soon respond in the 22nd minute as Emily Jermstad would fire the ball in the back of the net from outside the box to tie the game at one.
In the second half, the game would be back and forth as both sides were unable to capitalize and take the lead. Yellow cards issued to the Bearcats would also disrupt the flow of the second half as the game would still be tied at one after 90 minutes.
Neither team could break through in the extra 20 minutes, ending the game in a stalemate.
Lander travels to Francis Marion next Wednesday for a 7:00 pm match.
