GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team used goals from five different players to top Coker, 7-0, Wednesday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander (2-0) stretched it's unbeaten home streak to nine matches. The Bearcats' last loss at home came to Georgia College on Oct. 25, 2018.
"It was a great game to have everybody have a little bit of an opportunity," said head coach Chris Ayer. "They all played very well. We need to make sure that we're ready for Saturday night."
Emily Jermstad opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a strike from the right side of the box. Just over 10 minutes later, Kelcie Fisher found Jermstad for a one-on-one opportunity as the senior buried her second goal of the evening.
Katie Arthur began the second half barrage by taking a pass from Taylor and curling in a shot under the crossbar from beyond the box in the 53rd minute. Just over five minutes later, Kelcie Fisher connected in the box to push the Bearcats' lead to 5-0.
At the 60:53 mark, Micah Spickerman delivered a cross to Melinda Ingwersen, who headed it home to put Lander ahead 6-0. Simon recorded her second goal of the night in the 66th minute when she took a pass from Ingwersen and snuck a deep shot past the outstretched arms of the Cobra keeper to cap the scoring.
Lander outshot Coker (0-2) 24-2 on the evening.
The Bearcats return to action Saturday night as they host Wingate at 7:00 p.m.
