GREENWOOD – Lander wrestling's 2019 signing class was ranked No. 9 in The Open Mat's Division II Recruting Rankings, which were released on Thursday.
Head coach R.C. LaHaye brought in wrestlers from eight different states to complete the inaugural class, which will participate in Lander's first wrestling season in 2019-20. The incoming Bearcats won 28 combined high school state titles and garnered 10 high school All-American honors. Three incoming freshman were named the Dave Schulz Excellence Award winners, based on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, citizenship and community service, in their respective states.
Lander is the only program in the southeast and the only first-year program to earn a top-10 ranking.
