No. 21 women's basketball begins year with PBC/SAC Challenge

GREENWOOD – The No. 21-ranked Lander women's basketball team tips off the 2019-20 season this weekend when the Bearcats host Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman in the PBC/SAC Challenge. The Bearcats will play the Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Friday before taking on the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

• Lander is coming off its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. 

• The Bearcats were tabbed to finish second in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

• Lander returns the PBC Player of the Year in senior Jessica Harris, who was tabbed as a preseason all-PBC selection

• Senior Tabitha Dailey also returns after averaging 11.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game last season.

• The Bearcats edged Lenoir-Rhyne in last season's opener, 55-53. The Bears hold a 5-3 lead in the overall series. 

• Lander has faced Carson-Newman in each of the last two NCAA Tournaments, knocking off the Eagles in the opening round last year. 

• The Bearcats defeated Clemson 74-72 in a preseason exhibition.
