GREENWOOD – The Lander women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the Peach Belt when the conference announced the results of the preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning.
The Bearcats totaled 112 points in the poll. North Georgia was the leading vote getter, receiving 10 first-place votes and collecting 120 points. Clayton State was third (91 points), Columbus State fourth (84 points) and USC Aiken (76 points) fifth while Francis Marion (75 points) closed out the top half of the poll in sixth.
It's the fifth consecutive season Lander has been selected in the top-three of the preseason poll.
Flagler (69 points), UNC Pembroke (52 points), Augusta (42 points), Georgia College (34 points), Georgia Southwestern (28 points) and Young Harris (11 points) rounded out the rest of the poll.
