FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lander women's basketball team notched its ninth consecutive win in convincing fashion on Wednesday night, beating Francis Marion 85-70 at the Smith University Center.
The Bearcats (18-5, 15-2 PBC) spread the scoring around throughout the game, finishing with all five starters in double figures and shooting a season-high 55.0 percent from the field. Francis Marion (8-12, 5-11 PBC) committed 25 turnovers on the night, which Lander converted into 36 points.
Both teams battled back and forth through the first 15 minutes, with Lander holding a 29-28 lead midway through the second quarter. Mylea McKenith knocked down three-pointers on consecutive possessions to spark a 15-4 run over the final 5:11 over the second quarter to put the Bearcats up 44-32 at halftime.
The Patriots would not pull closer than 10 points the rest of the way as Lander built a 28-point lead with 6:49 to play in the fourth quarter.
McKenith finished with a team-high 20 points, going 8-of-13 from the floor. Tabitha Dailey recorded 17 points and six rebounds, while Jessica Harris finished with 11 and a team-high five assists. Sarah Crews grabbed six rebounds to go with her 11 points. Symore Starks scored 10 points and led the Bearcats with five steals.
Lander will be on the road for its next matchup, taking on Columbus State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
