GREENWOOD – The Peach Belt Conference announced its weekly awards Thursday with Lander women's basketball junior guard Jessica Harris earning Player of the Week honors.
Harris garnered the award, the first of her career, after setting and tying a career high in points while leading the Bearcats to a 2-0 week in conference play. The junior netted a career-high 26 points, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and added five steals and three assists in an 85-66 win at Young Harris. In an 88-83 victory at Clayton State, Harris again posted 26 points while also totaling a team-high five assists and five rebounds.
On the season, Harris is averaging team highs of 4.1 assists and 3.3 steals in 32.5 minutes each contest. She's averaging 16.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, good for second on the team in both categories.
Entering the weekend, she leads the PBC in assists with 41 and made free throws with 52. In addition, the guard is second in steals and fifth in defensive rebounds and points per game.
Harris and the Bearcats host Young Harris on Jan. 2 at 1:30 p.m. in Horne Arena.
