GREENWOOD – The fifth-ranked Lander men's tennis team earned two preseason All-Peach Belt Conference selections, the league announced on Monday, as seniors Ozan Cildir and Eirik Groner were both tabbed as preseason all-conference players.
Cildir, a senior from Halmstad Sweden, was a second-team all-PBC singles selection last season, posting a 15-3 record in singles play, including a perfect 10-0 mark at the No. 3 spot. He teamed up with Groner to go 15-2 in doubles action. He is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation in singles and No. 21 in doubles.
Groner earned first-team all-conference honors last year and was named the Elite 90 Award winner for the 2018 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship. A senior from Oslo, Norway, Groner accumulated 35 wins last year, going 15-5 in singles and 20-5 in doubles. He is ranked No. 21 nationally in doubles and No. 24 in singles.
The Bearcats begin the regular season at Georgia Gwinnett on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 2:30 p.m.
