Bearcat quartet earns All-Peach Belt Conference honors

FLORENCE, S.C. – Four Lander men's tennis players were named to All-Peach Belt Conference teams for the 2018 season, the league announced on Thursday.

No. 35 junior Eirik Groner was named first team All-PBC, while junior Ozan Cildir and the duo of senior David Korsten and junior Alexander Regner were named second team all-conference.

The recognitions are the second in the careers of Groner and Korsten and the first for Cildir and Regner.

The selections mark the second consecutive season that four different Bearcats have been tabbed as all-conference performers.

Groner has played at the top of the lineup in both singles for much of the season for the Bearcats, going 14-3 in the No. 1 and 2 spots. Groner has accumulated 30 total victories on the year.

Cildir has a 12-3 record in singles play and is a perfect 8-0 at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. He's also teamed up with Groner to go 11-0 in doubles action.

Korsten and Regner, the No. 19 doubles team in the nation, are 7-2 as Lander's No. 1 doubles pairing. The duo has helped lead the Bearcats to a .789 winning percentage in doubles play this year.

Lander opens the PBC Tournament on Friday afternoon against host Francis Marion at 1:00 p.m.
