No. 9 men's tennis wins City of Florence College Tennis Invitational

FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 9-ranked Lander men's tennis team reeled off two victories to take home the championship at the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational on Saturday. 

Lander moved to 4-0 on the season with wins over Newberry and Wingate. 

In the first match of the day, the Bearcats won two doubles matches and held off Newberry in singles play to earn a 5-3 win and punch their ticket to the tournament championship. 

In singles, No. 1 Edison Ambarzumjan (NBY) def. David Korsten (LU) 6-2, 6-2; No. 2 Eirik Groner (LU) 2-6, 6-0, 6-0; No. 3 Ozan Cildir (LU) def. Nikhil Mannepalli (NBY) 6-4, 6-0; No. 4 Angel Pizarro (NBY) def. Omar El-Moslemany (LU) 6-1, 6-4; and Philippe Courteau (LU) def. Jordan Monosky (NBY) 6-4, 6-3. 

In doubles, No. 1 David Korsten/Axel Cronje (LU) def. Edison Ambarzumjan/Jose Navarro (NBY) 9-7; No. 2 Angel Pizarro/Nikhil Mannepalli (NBY) def. Ozan Cildir/Philippe Courteau (LU) 8-6; and Eirik Groner/Gabriel Couto (LU) def. Jordan Monosky/Alex Amble (NBY) 8-3. 

In the championship match against Wingate, Lander rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play with four singles victories to claim the tournament title. 

In singles, No. 1 Daniel Belsito (WU) def. David Korsten (LU) 6-3, 6-1; No. 2 Eirik Groner (LU) def. Josep Canyadell (WU) 6-0, 6-0; No. 3 Axel Cronje (LU) def. Matthew Jones (WU) 6-1, 7-6; No. 4 Ozan Cildir (LU) def. Josh Dutoit (WU) 7-6, 5-7, 6-2; and No. 6 Omar El-Moslemany (LU) def.Tamir Geva (WU) 6-4, 6-3. 

In doubles, No. 1 Daniel Belsito/Josh Dutoit (WU) def. David Korsten/Axel Cronje (LU) 9-7; No. 2 Duncan Addison/Josep Canyadell (WU) def. Ozan Cildir/Philippe Courteau (LU) 8-5; and No. 3 Eirik Groner/Gabriel Couto (LU) def. Enrico Giacomini/Matthew Jones (WU) 9-7.
