GREENWOOD – The No. 11-ranked Lander men's soccer team suffered just its second loss of the season as the Bearcats dropped a 3-1 decision to Anderson on Wednesday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
The Trojans got on the board quickly as Lucas Mostajo sent a ball into the box that deflected off a Bearcat defender and inside the left post to put Anderson up 1-0 at the 5:09 mark.
Lander found the equalizer in the 38th minute when Oakley Hanger sent a corner kick to Max McNulty, whose ensuing header was saved to the feet of Jonah Miller. The freshman, who entered the match just 34 seconds earlier, smashed the loose ball into the net to tie the match.
Neither team would score again until the 82:55 mark as a Lander corner kick was defended and turned into a counter-attack by the Trojans. Shalev Keter played the ball to Harry Ward, who delivered it right back to Keter for a shot that snuck under the crossbar.
Anderson put the match out of reach with 65 seconds remaining when Myles Duncan found Conley Waters for the Trojans' third goal of the night.
Lander outshot Anderson 19-5 on the night, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Bearcats also held the advantage in corner kicks, 11-3. Gal Elyashiv made nine saves for the Trojans, while Jacob Withers finished with a pair of stops for Lander.
The Bearcats travel to Young Harris on Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
