GREENWOOD – The Lander men's soccer team (6-1-2, 2-0-0 PBC) picked up a home win on Saturday night, defeating USC Aiken (2-5-0, 1-1-0 PBC) by a final score of 2-1 inside Van Taylor Stadium.
The first half was pretty even, with neither team able to find a real scoring opportunity in the first 20 minutes of the contest. In the 22nd minute, the Bearcats would breakthrough thanks to a goal by Max Bolton to give them a 1-0 advantage. In the 38th minute, the Bearcats would extend their lead thanks to a made penalty kick by Max Bolton to give him his second goal of the game. The Pacers would manage only to get off one shot in the first half as they would take a two-goal deficit into halftime.
Lander would come out of the break and continue their aggressive approach as they got off eight shots in the second half but were unable to extend their lead. In the 69th minute, the Pacers would cut the deficit to one thanks to a Ricardo Pineda goal. USC Aiken would continue to push the ball forward the rest of the game but was unable to send the game into overtime.
Next up, Lander will host Anderson next Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff at Van Taylor Stadium. The match will be live-streamed on the Bearcat Broadcasting Network.
