LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The No. 5-ranked Lander men's soccer team got two goals from freshman Max Bolton and the Bearcats held West Alabama scoreless in a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Lander (2-0) earned its first clean sheet of the season and its 10th in its last 12 matches, dating back to last season. West Alabama (0-1) fell to the Bearcats for the second consecutive season.
The Bearcats stifled the Tigers, allowing just four shots while attempting 12 for the match. Jacob Withers made two saves in the victory.
Lander attacked early and found paydirt in the 16th minute when Jed Smith connected with Bolton for the first goal of the afternoon. The Bearcats doubled their lead in the opening minutes of the second half as Smith once again located a teammate, this time finding Max McNulty for a goal at the 47:17 mark.
Bolton put the match out of reach 12 minutes later, taking a pass from Robbie Young in front of the goal and delivering his second score.
Laner takes the field at Van Taylor Stadium for its first home match of the season on Wednesday night against Newberry. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
