GREENWOOD – Lander men's soccer head coach Lee Squires announced the hiring of former Lees-McRae teammate Dale Parker as an assistant coach on Friday.
Squires and Parker were teammates at Lees-McRae from 2007-09, helping lead the Bobcats to an appearance in the 2009 national championship match.
"I am delighted to be able to bring Dale in," said Squires. "Having played and lived together back in our own college days, I know first hand the qualities Dale can bring to our program. He's an experienced coach who carries himself very well and I know our guys will enjoy having him around and learning from him."
Parker most recently served as the Director of Coaching for the Virginia Soccer Assocation and as the head coach of the U16/17 boys team of the Virginia Develpment Academy. Prior to that, Parker served as the Director of Girls Coaching for Chesterfield United FC and as head coach for the club's women's pre-WPSL team.
A two-time All-American and three-year captain at Lees-McRae, Parker helped the Bobcats capture three regular season titles and advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament in 2007 and 2009. Parker started 80 matches at Lees-McRae, including a stretch of 72 consecutive matches.
"I would like to thank Lee and the athletics department at Lander for giving me this opportunity to join one of the top programs in the country," Parker said. "I have known Lee since our college playing days and I know I'm coming in to a very professional and high quality environment. I'm looking forward to the chance to help continue driving this program forward and build on the history of success at Lander."
