HICKORY, N.C. - The Lander men's basketball team withstood multiple runs throughout the game to defeat Lenoir-Rhyne, 75-68, Saturday night at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Bears would respond with a couple of three-pointers to trim the deficit. The game would then be back and forth as Lander would have a slim 21-20 lead with 7:33 left in half. The Bearcats would use a little run at the end of the half to take the 39-34 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Bearcats would jump out to a 46-36 lead in the first five minutes of the second half. The Bears would try to get back into the game as they would trim the deficit to 52-47 with 11:47 left in the game. Lander would hold on till the end and earn their first true road win of the season.
Next up, the Bearcats are scheduled to travel to Emmanuel on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
