AMERICUS, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team used six double-figure scorers, led by Jordan Dingle's 20 points, to secure a 101-87 road win over North Georgia on Wednesday night.
Lander (12-15, 11-10 PBC) topped the 100-point mark for the fifth time this season and moved into a tie for fifth in the conference standings. The Bearcats can secure the No. 5-seed in the Peach Belt Conference tournament with a win over Augusta on Saturday. North Georgia (11-16, 6-15 PBC) saw its bid for a spot in the PBC tournament end with the loss.
The Bearcats shot 51.4 percent from the field, hitting over half their shots for the third time in four games. Lander jumped out to a hot start, taking a 7-0 lead and never trailing. Leading 32-29 with 4:13 to go in the first half, the Bearcats closed the half on a 13-4 run, highlighted by seven points from Dingle.
A three-pointer from Rahu Purdie gave Lander a 20-point lead with 14:50 remaining in the second half. The Nighthawks pulled within 12 points at the 11:45 mark, but the Bearcats scored the next nine points and kept UNG at bay the rest of the night.
Dingle's 20 points came on just 11 shots in 25 minutes. Elijah Alston recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sidney Robinson scored 12 points and dished a team-high four assists. Marquel Wiggins scored all 12 of his points in the second half, while DeShundre Rucker and Rahu Purdie each finished with 11 points.
The Bearcats conclude the regular season at home on Saturday afternoon as Lander hosts Augusta on Senior Day at 3:30 p.m.
