AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Lander men's basketball team dropped a 95-66 Peach Belt Conference game to Augusta on Saturday afternoon.
Lander (7-13, 6-8 PBC) remains in the hunt for a PBC Tournament berth, sitting at No. 7 in the conference standings. Augusta (14-5, 10-3 PBC) is a half-game back of the No. 2 spot.
The Bearcats were led by Rahu Purdie, who scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Elijah Alston finished just shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Morris Robinson Jr. recorded three assists.
Lander trailed by 10 at halftime, but opened the second half with a 13-7 burst, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Purdie, to trim the deficit to 50-46 with 16:49 remaining. However, the Jaguars outscored the Bearcats 45-20 the rest of the way. Augusta finished the game with 13 made three-pointers and shot 50.8 percent for the game.
The Bearcats will look to extend their home winning streak to three games on Wednesday night as Lander hosts UNC Pembroke at 7:30 p.m.
