AIKEN, S.C. – The Lander men's basketball team dropped a 92-82 contest to sixth-ranked USC Aiken Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center where the Pacers have won 17 in a row.
Lander (6-12, 5-7 PBC) outshot USC Aiken (17-1, 11-1 PBC), the PBC's third-best offense in scoring, going 47.5 percent from the floor against the Pacers' 43.4 percent. However, USCA cashed in on 30 points off 23 Bearcats turnovers, while Lander managed 13 points off 12 Pacer mishaps.
Marquel Wiggins guided the Bearcat attack with 16 points, 11 of which occurred in the second half. Wiggins also grabbed 10 rebounds, along with Elijah Alston, who finished with 12 points and 10 boards. Jordan Dingle chipped in 11 of his 14 points in the first half, while Sidney Robinson and Morris Robinson, Jr., each scored 13 points. DeShundre Rucker finished the day with 12 points.
Lander grabbed an early 15-6 lead and used an 11-2 run over the final 4:00 of the first half to carry a 49-42 lead into halftime. However, the Pacers rallied to take a 55-54 lead with 15:30 remaining and held off the Bearcats to win their fifth consecutive game.
The Bearcats will host North Georgia on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Finis Horne Arena.
