PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lander men's basketball team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday as the Bearcats fell to 25th-ranked UNC Pembroke, 107-68, in a Peach Belt Conference matchup.
UNC Pembroke (10-1, 5-0 PBC) earned its eighth consecutive win and stayed unbeaten in league play. The Braves knocked down 13 three-pointers and owned a 60-36 advantage in rebounding.
The Bearcats stayed within striking distance in the first half, pulling within three points after a pair of Justin Holiday free throws cut UNCP's lead to 43-40 with 2:48 to go in the half, but the Braves embarked on a 14-0 run to close the half, taking a 17-point lead into the locker room.
Lander would not pull any closer in the second half, as the Bearcats shot just 27.6 percent from the field and 1-for-11 from beyond the arc over the final 20 minutes.
