Lander opens 2018-19 season against Anderson, Carson-Newman

CENTRAL, S.C. – The Lander men's basketball team will begin its 2018-19 campaign this weekend with a pair of non-conference matchups against Anderson and Carson-Newman as part of the Classic at Southern Wesleyan. The Bearcats will face Anderson at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and will play Carson-Newman at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.

• Lander returns six players from last year's squad, including third-team All-PBC selection Rahu Purdie

• Purdie and Jordan Dingle are the only two seniors on the squad and Lander's two leading returning scorers from last season. 

• Sophomore Sidney Robinson led the team in steals with 28 last season and averaged 9.4 points per game. 

• Lander is looking to win its fourth season opener in the past five years. 

• The Bearcats defeated Anderson last season, 80-71, behind 27 points from Purdie and four assists from Dingle. 

• Lander fell to Carson-Newman in last year's season opener as five different Bearcats scored in double figures. 

• The Bearcats are searching for their first neutral site win since 2016.
