Bearcats drop series opener at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander baseball team dropped a pitcher's duel on Friday night, falling 2-1 to Flagler in the opener of a Peach Belt Conference series.

Lander (8-9, 4-3 PBC) took an early lead in the top of the second inning when Nathan Schreckengost led off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Colton Yeager followed with a single up the middle to plate Schreckengost and give Lander a 1-0 advantage. 

Flagler (8-8, 3-4 PBC) answered with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, notching a single and a double in back-to-back at-bats to even the score at 1-1. 

With the score still knotted in the seventh and runners on first and second with one out, the Saints took the lead for good with an RBI single to right field. 

Fraser Ellard (0-1) allowed one run on three hits in 3.0 innings of relief for the Bearcats. Flagler's Derick Garcia (3-1) tossed 7.2 innings, surrendering an unearned run on seven hits. 

The Bearcats and Saints will play game two of the series Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
