14 Bearcats playing summer ball in collegiate, professional ranks

GREENWOOD – With the 2018 wrapped up, Lander baseball players have hit the road for summer ball.

While some players are getting much-needed rest, there are 12 Bearcats on rosters in six different collegiate summer leagues.

Seven players have joined teams in the prestigious Coastal Plain League League. Carson Jones returned to the Forest City (N.C.) Owls to team up with Erik Holton, Mike Fitschen and Colton YeagerRobbie Hoyt and Joseph Whitt are both pitching for the Holly Springs (N.C.) Salamanders. Tripper Ergle rounds out the CPL contingent with the Wilson (N.C.) Tobs. 

Justin Wager is spending his summer in the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches. 

Ryan Flores is playing the Valley Baseball League as a member of the Winchester (Va.) Royals. 

Tim Kranz joined the Long Island (N.Y.) Road Warriors, reigning champions of the Hamptons League.

Kyle Jenkins is competing with the Concord (N.C.) Athletics in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.

Praise Thorsen headed to the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League to join the Loudoun (Va.) Riverdogs. 

Alex Moore is training this summer at the Florida Baseball Ranch. 

Additionally, two former Bearcats are playing professionally this summer. Brandon White, a 12th-round selection of the Atlanta Brave in 2016, is currently with the Class A Rome Braves. Mason McCullough, the school's highest draft pick as the Arizona Diamondbacks' fifth-round pick in 2014, is with the Double-A Jackson Generals.
