Bearcats drop series opener at Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Lander baseball team committed a season-high seven errors and could not overcome a pair of four-run innings as the Bearcats bowed to Nova Southeastern, 12-6, on Thursday night.

Lander (5-13) trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the sixth inning after a two-run single from Zack Moore in the top of the sixth, but the Sharks (9-6) plated four runs in the frame and, after an RBI groundout from Colton Yeager in the top of the seventh, tacked on four more runs to push their lead to 12-4 heading into the eighth inning.

Mike Fitschen drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle in the top of the ninth, but Lander could manage nothing else as Nova Southeastern held on for a 12-6 win.

Tripper Ergle (1-3) suffered the loss for the Bearcats, allowing eight runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 5.2 innings of work. NSU's Derik Beauprez (2-1) earned the win, striking out 11 and allowing three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings.
