LEXINGTON, S.C. – JD Cook and Tripper Ergle pitched a combined shutout and Zack Moore homered, leading the Lander Bearcats to a 4-0 victory over North Greenville College Saturday afternoon at Lexington County Stadium.
Lander and the Crusaders split the two-game series with North Greenville winning 5-1 at Dolny Stadium in Greenwood Friday evening.
With Saturday's victory, the Bearcats improved to 2-3 on the season.
The Crusaders fell to 4-2.
Cook (1-1) started the game and worked five shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out seven and walking three.
Ergle tossed the final four innings for his first save of the season. He allowed four hits, struck out two and walked no one.
Cook and Ergle each allowed only one extra-base hit.
Blake Hamilton (0-1) took the loss as North Greenville's starter.
Lander scored single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and eighth innings.
Carson Jones was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a balk and scored on Moore's single to center, making it 1-0.
Alex Conaway doubled and scored on a Jones single up the middle for a 2-0 lead in the fourth.
Vincent Addona led off the fifth with a single, stopped at second on a wild pitch, and scored on Conaway's single to right center.
Moore homered down the right-field line in the eighth to complete the scoring. For the sophomore transfer from East Carolina University, it was Moore's first homer in a Lander uniform.
Addona, Conaway and Moore each went 2-for-4 for the Bearcats.
Andrew Puckett was the only Crusader with multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
