GREENWOOD – For the first time since 2007, the Lander volleyball team will host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, the league announced this week.
Lander, which first hosted the tournament in 1999, will become the sixth school to host the event three times.
"We are really excited for the opportunity to host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in 2018," said head coach Ashley White. "I know we will provide a great atmosphere for a great event."
The Bearcats have played in all 20 PBC Tournaments since starting the volleyball program in 1998. Lander's lone appearance in the tournament championship came in 2007, when the Bearcats hosted. The Bearcats have advanced to the semifinals of the tournament in 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
Lander averaged 217 fans per home match last season, the second-highest mark in program history. The Bearcats broke the single-match attendance record with 496 fans at the home opener against UNC Pembroke on Sept. 15, while the Sept. 22 contest against Augusta drew 305 fans, the eighth-highest attendance ever.
