In their final matches in Horne Arena, seniors Kirstin Martindale and Reyonia Whipple combined for nine kills, eight digs and two blocks.
USC Aiken (23-4, 9-2 PBC) claimed the first set, hitting .433 to hold off the Bearcats. Lander hung with the Pacers, registering a .393 hitting percentage, but a 5-0 run to extend the USC Aiken lead to 11-6 was enough to keep the Bearcats at bay.
Lander pulled within 6-5 in the second set once again, but the Pacers rattled off eight consecutive points to seize the momentum and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bearcats fell prey to a 6-1 run midway through the third set as USC Aiken pulled ahead 18-11. Trailing 21-14, Lander attempted one final comeback, notching five consecutive points to pull within two, but could not complete the rally.
Lander will now prepare for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in Milledgeville, Ga., on Nov. 17-19. The Bearcats will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament.
