Lander returns to action with four matches at USC Aiken Invitational

Aiken, S.C. – After sweeping the field in last week's Newberry Invitational, the Lander volleyball team (4-0) will return to action on Friday and Saturday in this year's USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational. The Bearcats will participate in four matches over the two days with tomorrow's head-to-heads coming against Anderson (3-0) at 1 p.m. and Barton (2-3) at 5 p.m.

• This year marks the third consecutive appearance by the Bearcats in the USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational. Lander has compiled an impressive 7-1 record in those games with their last loss coming against King in the 2015 invitational.

• Lander right side hitter Hannah Hrtiz impressed in her collegiate debut last weekend. The true freshman leads the team in kills with 63.

• The Bearcats' first match will be a battle of the unbeatens as Anderson enters Friday's contest with an unblemished 3-0 record, having won all nine sets in those matches.

• In Lander's second match, the Bearcats will take on last season's Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament champions. Barton entered the 2017 campaign atop the Conference Carolinas preseason poll after a 2016 record of 22-9.

• Lander's third match will come against Valdosta State (2-1) on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Blazers were picked to finish fourth in the Gulf South Conference preseason poll.

• Finally, the Bearcats will close the invitational against Mount Olive (2-2) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The Trojans finished 2016 with a record of 10-18. Their last winning season came in 2011 with an overall mark of 16-14.
