Bearcats knock off Clayton State in PBC match, 6-3

GREENWOOD  The Lander women's tennis team ended the month of March with a victory on Friday afternoon as the Bearcats defeated Clayton State, 6-3, in a Peach Belt Conference match.

Lander improves to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the PBC, while the Lakers drop to 2-11, (0-8).

In singles, No. 1 Kristiin Mets (CSU) def. Yuriko Ono (LU) 6-3, 6-2; No. 2 Ivanka Mocic (LU) def. Darina Drozdova (CSU) 6-1, 6-4; No. 3 Caroline Yodice (LU) def. Laura Shkembi (CSU) 6-1, 6-0; No. 4 Nelli Lius (LU) def. Brianna Canty) 6-0, 6-0; No. 5 Alina Ageichik (CSU) def. Julia Suzuki (LU) 4-6, 3-3, retired; and No. 6 Isabella Schulz (LU) def. Brittney Canty (CSU) 6-0, 6-0. 

In doubles, No. 1 Mets/Drozdova (CSU) def. Yodice/Schulz (LU) 8-4; No. 2 Ono/Lius (LU) def. Shkembi/Ageichik (CSU) 8-1; and No. 3 Mocic/Suzuki (LU) def. Laura Toscan/Canty 8-1.

Lander hosts Montevallo at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday.
