Women's tennis outlasts USC Aiken for 5-4 win

GREENWOOD – Freshman Julia Suzuki came through with the match-winning point Saturday when she won her No. 5 singles match to lead Lander women's tennis team to a 5-4 Peach Belt Conference victory against USC Aiken at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center in a match that lasted nearly six hours.

Lander, which led 2-1 after doubles play, improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the PBC. USC Aiken slips to 4-6, (0-5).

In singles, No. 1 Nadine Tusiama (USCA) def. Yuriko Ono (LU) 6-3, 6-4; No. 2 Ivanka Mocic (LU) def. Kayla Calvert (USCA) 6-2, 2-6, 6-1; No. 3 Olivera Veskovac (USCA) def. Caroline Yodice (LU) 6-3, 6-2; No. 4 Brigitta Mirak (USCA) def. Nelli Lius (LU) 6-4, 6-4; No. 5 Julia Suzuki (LU) def. Victoria Giannaccini (USCA) 7-6, 6-7, 6-2; and No. 6 Isabella Schulz (LU) def. Marie Aimee Habiyaremye (USCA) 3-6, 6-2, 6-1

In doubles, No. 1 Veskovac/Habiyaremye (USCA) def. Schulz/Yodice (LU) 8-5; No. 2 Ono/Lius (LU) def. Calvert/Mirak (USCA) 8-6; and No. 3 Mocic/Suzuki (LU) def. Giannaccini/Tusiama (USCA) 8-2.
