Lander defeated 3-1 by Georgia College to wrap home portion of season

GREENWOOD – The Lander women's soccer team found itself in an early hole on Wednesday night and were unable to rally, eventually falling 3-1 to visiting Georgia College at Van Taylor Stadium.

"I think the girls played well tonight," said head coach Chris Ayer. "We had a five minute period in the second half were it just fell apart, but the girls worked really hand and fought their way back a little bit. The ball moved pretty well off the feet, we were just unlucky a little bit in the final third. We have to continue to work to get better."

The Bearcats (7-7, 3-6 PBC) were playing catch-up after the eighth minute of the match when Georgia College (10-5, 6-3 PBC) got on the board courtesy of a Anya Mancinelli goal. The scored remained 1-0 until Amanda Bartholomew fired a shot from beyond the box that bounced inside the far post at the 64:52 mark to extend the Bobcat lead to 2-0.

Just 67 seconds later, Bartholomew found Sofia Bonser in front of the net, who fired Georgia College's third goal of the evening.

The Bearcats continued to fight back, getting on the board in the 77th minute on a free kick from Kayla Walker that sailed just under the crossbar to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, Lander was unable to chip away any further as the Bobcats held on.

Lander will regroup and head to Georgia Southwestern for the regular season finale at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
