Women's soccer falls in defensive struggle against Young Harris

Young Harris, Ga. – The Lander women's soccer team (7-5, 3-4 PBC) fell to Young Harris in a defensive struggle ending in a 1-0 result in favor of the Mountain Lions on Saturday.

Young Harris (7-3-1, 4-1-1 PBC) recorded the game's lone goal in the 9th minute of action. Junior forward Baylee Roche was credited with her seventh goal of the season off the assist from junior midfielder Lucero Robayo.

The Bearcats managed just two shots on goal in the match. The first attempt came in the 26th minute through the efforts of senior defender Kayla Walker; however Young Harris goalkeeper Nicole Medeiros was there to make her 69th save of the season. Midfielder Chloe Le Franc had an opportunity in the 77th minute for the equalizer, but the freshman was once again denied by Medeiros.

Lander goalkeeper Sarah Owen recorded an incredible 9 saves in the losing effort. The freshman keeper came just two saves shy of her career-high set earlier this season against Wingate.

The Mountain Lions recorded 17 shot attempts on the match in comparison to just three by the Bearcats. Lander garnered four corner kicks on the game as opposed to Young Harris' three; however, the Bearcats gained only one shot attempt from the subsequent set pieces.

Lander will return to action on Wednesday at 5:5:00 p.m. when the Bearcats travel to take on UNC Pembroke.
