GREENWOOD – Lander senior Breshay Johnson (Hopkins, S.C.) and junior Chelsea Mitchell (Laurel, Md.) were named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Women's Basketball All-Southeast Region Second-Team, as announced on Monday.
This marks the second straight year two Bearcats have received All-Southeast Region nods.
Johnson, a first-team All-PBC selection, is Lander's all-time scoring leader. The senior averaged 16.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game and lead the PBC in field-goal percentage (60.9), made free throws (135) and offensive rebounds (106). She ended her Bearcat career with 1,927 points and 967 rebounds. Johnson is fifth all-time in the Peach Belt Conference in scoring and 10th all-time in rebounds.
Mitchell, another first-team All-PBC performer, averaged 15.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.4 assists per game. The junior led the conference with 107 steals.
The first team features PBC Player of the Year Tatiana Wayne, South Atlantic Conference Co-Players of the Year Haris Price (Carson-Newman) and Marta Miscenko (Wingate), Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Felecity Havens (Mount Olive) and All-SAC selection Mika Wester (Carson-Newman). Wayne was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year.
The second team is made up of a trio of PBC selections in Johnson, Mitchell and Shaunice Fulmore of Francis Marion University. Rounding out the All-Southeast second team is the All-Conference Carolinas duo of Keidra Smith of Limestone College and Kianna Wynn of Barton College.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the two D2CCA All-Southeast Region teams. The process concludes with All-America selections announced later in the month.
